Netflix viewers show their love for Aussie kids’ content

The Inbestigators remains the most watched Australian children’s series among global Netflix audiences, accumulating 10 million views in the first six months of 2025.

According to the latest What We Watched: A Netflix Engagement Report, there were 5.3 million views of The Inbestigators Series 1 (24.8 million viewing hours) and 4.7 million views of Series 2 (22.6 million hours).

Out of 7,507 titles included in the report, 96 were Australian, with 32.29% of those children’s titles.

The Inbestigators, from producers Gristmill, is a co-commission between Netflix and the ABC. Since Netflix released its first publicly accessible viewing data in December 2023, The Inbestigators has consistently been one of the most watched Australian children’s titles, ranking the highest in the last three reports.

Among the most watched 14 Australian titles between January and June 2025, half were children’s series. Gymnastics Academy: A Second Chance S1 amassed 5 million views, while Surviving Summer Series 1 and H20: Just Add Water Series 1 clocked 2.8 million views.

Little Lunch – another Gristmill production – also accumulated 2.8 million views, despite only being available on Netflix in Australia, the UK, Ireland and the USA as of April 2025. The Inbestigators is available worldwide.

ACTF CEO Jenny Buckland says: “Australian children’s television punches well above its weight internationally. It has a much longer lifecycle than adult TV or feature films, with children’s series in the market for many years as new generations of children discover them every two to three years.

“We can see that in action through Netflix’s latest engagement report with 10 million streams of The Inbestigators, which first aired in 2019, and 2.8 million streams of Little Lunch, which premiered in 2015. H20: Just Add Water is nearly 20 years old. Australian children’s content resonates with audiences right across the world as it is rewatched and rediscovered time and time again.”
