Mega Bites

We are honoured to have the opportunity to learn from the oldest cultural storytellers in the world and seek to support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander practitioners to share their rich culture and perspectives with children in Australia and around the world via stories on screen.

Episodes

Episode 1 The Crocodile

Georgi introduces an Australian Estuarine Crocodile. Leon is spooked. She describes the length it can grow to and how long it can live. Georgi describes how much bite power the crocodile has and Leon imagines what it must be like. Georgi demonstrates how little effort is required to hold a crocodile's mouth shut, but when Leon tries it, the crocodile takes a snap at him. Georgi reminds everyone to treat all animals with respect – especially the ones that have a mega bite!

Episode 2 The Polar Bear

Georgi introduces the Polar Bear. Leon is terrified. She describes the world’s largest land predator and their weight. The polar bear is embarrassed by his weight and attempts look fitter, but his belly sags. Georgi describes how polar bears disguise themselves as lumps of ice to hunt seals. Leon imagines himself getting caught out by a 'lump of ice'. Georgi describes how a polar bear can crush a skull and Leon retreats. Georgi reminds everyone to treat all animals with respect – especially the ones that have a mega bite!

Episode 3 The Tasmanian Devil

Georgi introduces the Tasmanian Devil and all the yucky things they eat. Leon is grossed out. Georgi describes how 'devils' bite through iron sheeting to eat chickens and Leon imagines that. Georgi describes how Tasmanian devils eat everything (except teeth!) and explains how they could bite your arm off. Leon bolts. Georgi reminds everyone to treat all animals with respect – especially the ones that have a mega bite!

Episode 4 The Tiger Shark

Georgi introduces the Tiger Shark. Leon bolts. Georgi describes its length and how they’re called 'the garbage cans of the sea'. We see Leon feeding trash to the shark. Georgi describes the shark’s bite power and some facts about their teeth. Leon imagines himself and the shark cleaning their teeth together. Georgi reminds everyone to treat all animals with respect – especially the ones that have a mega bite!

Episode 5 The Staffordshire Terrier

Georgi introduces the Staffordshire Terrier. Leon is delighted and pats it. Georgi explains the origins of the dog and their enormous bite power. Leon stops patting. Leon imagines the dog and compares its bite power to the weight of a whole pile of stuff. Georgi explains that the dog can outbite 30 German Shepherds - and Leon bolts. Georgi reminds everyone to treat all animals with respect – especially the ones that have a mega bite!

Episode 6 The King Cobra

Georgi introduces the King Cobra. Leon hides behind Georgi. She explains how venomous they are and how many adults they could kill with one bite. She also explains how far they can spit and Leon imagines himself and the cobra having a spitting competition. Georgi explains how smart cobras are, and how fast they can learn. Georgi reminds everyone to treat all animals with respect – especially the ones that have a mega bite!

Episode 7 The Panamanian Termite

Georgi introduces the Panamanian Termite. It’s so small that Leon can’t even see it. On close up, we see the termite reading the newspaper - until Georgi explains that it’s totally blind. Georgi explains that this termite can bite at 253 km/h, and Leon imagines himself driving a racing car and being passed by the termite, as it eats the guard rail. Georgi tells people who live in wooden houses to watch out for termites, and she reminds everyone to treat all animals with respect – especially the ones that have a mega bite!

Episode 8 The Piranha

Georgi introduces the Piranha. Leon is curious. Georgi explains that piranhas are extremely dangerous, and that they can bite through a stainless steel fish hook - but most of all, they like eating meat. Leon imagines the piranha jumping out of a river and biting an otter. Georgi explains how voracious piranhas are, and how they could easily snap your fingers off. Leon is stunned. Georgi reminds everyone to treat all animals with respect – especially the ones that have a mega bite!

Episode 9 The Australian Inland Taipan

Georgi introduces the Australian Inland Taipan - and Leon bolts. She describes their length, how aggressive they are and how they’re the world’s most venomous snake. Leon imagines the snake’s venom burning a hole in the floor, like acid. Georgi explains how toxic the venom is, and the effects it can have. Leon faints. Georgi reminds everyone to treat all animals with respect – especially the ones that have a mega bite!

Episode 10 The Komodo Dragon

Georgi introduces the Komodo Dragon. Leon hides behind Georgi. She explains where they’re from and how they’re the smartest of all lizards. We see the Komodo Dragon doing a complex calculation. Georgi explains how dangerous they are, and Leon imagines himself in a suit of armour, battling the dragon. Georgi explains how the dragon eats every part of an animal, and Leon faints. Georgi reminds everyone to treat all animals with respect – especially the ones that have a mega bite!
